ALL DOORS OPEN, GUNS ALLOWED IN MORGAN CO COURTHOUSE – SHERIFF NOT HAPPY AT ALL

82639839The Morgan County Sheriff has stepped down as head of security for the county courthouse. Sheriff Glen Freytag says he disagrees with the county commission re-opening all of the doors to the courthouse, bringing metal detectors upstairs and allowing those with gun permits to carry firearms in the building. Before, there was only a single entrance into the building and those people had to pass through a metal detector. But commissioners said that they find that a huge aggravation and so voted to open all the courthouse doors, do away with the security guard position and move the metal detectors. Now, the only people who are screened are those heading to the main courtroom. Firearms are still prohibited in the courtroom. County Executive Don Edwards has been appointed head of security.
