DANGEROUSLY COLD TONIGHT WITH SNOW POSSIBLE

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
155 PM CST MON NOV 17 2014
...LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU FOR TONIGHT... AN UPPER LEVEL IMPULSE IS EXPECTED TO MOVE SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE MID STATE TONIGHT. AS THIS ENERGY INTERACTS WITH SOME RESIDUAL LOWER LEVEL MOISTURE OVER THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU AREA...A CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS EXISTS. GIVEN THE SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES AND COLD GROUND CONDITIONS...SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION OF AROUND ONE HALF INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. ROADWAYS MAY BECOME SNOW COVERED OVERNIGHT AND THIS WILL MAKE FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT THE PLATEAU. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION AND STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES. IN ADDITION TO THE POTENTIAL FOR SNOW...VERY COLD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. TEMPERATURES THIS EVENING WILL DROP INTO THE LOWER 20S WITH THE MERCURY FALLING TO THE 10 TO 15 DEGREE RANGE BY SUNRISE. EVEN WORSE...WIND SPEEDS OF 10 TO 15 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE. THIS WILL CREATE WIND CHILL VALUES OF 10 TO 15 DEGREES THIS EVENING...AND THEN ZERO TO 5 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO BY SUNRISE. TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THIS EARLY WINTER OUTBREAK OF VERY COLD AIR...TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS. DRESS IN LAYERS AND WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES. KEEP A FEW EXTRA BLANKETS IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR. COVER ANY EXPOSED PIPES OR OUTDOOR WATER SPIGOTS. CHECK ON THE ELDERLY. KEEP A FEW OF THE INDOOR WATER FAUCETS DRIPPING TO PREVENT PIPES FROM FREEZING. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST...CHECK ON YOUR PETS AND BRING THEM INDOORS IF NEEDED. THE COLD BLAST IS NOT EXPECTED TO LAST VERY LONG. WARMER TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY WITH HIGHS BACK UP IN THE 40S. 60S FOR HIGHS AND EVEN A FEW 70S ARE EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND.
