CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSIONER – TEACHER MICHAEL SPEICH BELIEVED TO HAVE KILLED SELF

 

According to sources, Cumberland County commissioner/ school teacher Michael Speich has shot himself.  CNF received information earlier today that Speich had shot himself.  The Crossville Chronicle is reporting that his body has been found on his farm in eastern Cumberland County. The report from the Chronicle states:

If it is Michael Eugene Speich, 55, Westel Rd., he apparently died of a self-inflicted shotgun blast to the head. The identity of the body found will be confirmed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville, District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway said. 

His body was found shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday by neighbors. It appeared his body may have been in the pasture for a short period of time prior to being discovered.

Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox has confirmed a body was found and an investigation is ongoing.  Sheriff Cox said the body has not been identified as Speich but indicated they believed it to be the commissioner.

Michael Speich, a teacher at Stone Elementary School, and elected County Commissioner for the sixth district was charged with one count of sexual battery by an authority figure and one count of providing alcohol to a minor. The DA said the victim was a minor child at the time of the incident.
