CUMBERLAND CO SHERIFF’S OFFICE ISSUES SCAM ALERT
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning to all residents regarding a recent scam targeting individuals within our community. We have received numerous reports this morning regarding a fraudulent scheme in which a caller, claiming to be “Lt. James Perry of the Sheriff’s Office,” contacts individuals and falsely informs them of a civil suit supposedly involving them.
Please be aware that this individual is not associated with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office or any legitimate law enforcement agency. We urge all residents to exercise caution and vigilance in response to such calls.
It is important to note that law enforcement agencies and legitimate government entities will never request personal information or payment over the phone in relation to civil suits or legal matters. If you receive a call from the aforementioned number or encounter a similar situation, please do not provide any personal information or engage with the caller.
Please share this warning with friends, family, and neighbors to ensure that everyone remains informed and safeguarded against potential scams. By working together and spreading awareness, we can help protect our community from falling victim to fraudulent activities.
