CUMBERLAND CO SCHOOLS PREPARING FOR POSSIBLE TOTAL AT-HOME VIRTUAL CLASSES

With 461 students out of school in quarantine, Cumberland County Schools system is taking precautionary measures for possibly going to total virtual at-home classes due to increased quarantined students.  According to the latest figures, there are only 30 active student COVID cases and 13 staff active cases. The school system sent out letters and texts today asking parents input on who might need food delivered to their homes in case students were to stay home for internet classes.  All students are entitled to get breakfast and lunch from the school system made possible by the USDA.  Should the number of quarantined students reach a level that causes schools to shut down in favor of at-home classes, meals would be delivered by bus to the homes or could be picked up at either of the high schools.   We were told that the notifications to the parent is a ‘precautionary measure’ only by the schools and there isn’t a ‘magic number’ at which the schools would convert to at-home virtual teaching.
