CUMBERLAND CO CLERKS OFFICE CLOSED, WILL MOVE TO 127 SOUTH LOCATION

The Cumberland County Clerk’s office is preparing to move to 127 South and set up temporary offices in the former Progressive Bank building while work is done on a structurally damaged roof beam in the Courthouse on Main Street.  The following from County Mayor Allen Foster:

A water leak led to the discovery of major structural damage in the large courtroom of the old courthouse downtown.  An inspection by a structural engineering firm found at least two of the large oak roof trusses have significant damage, rendering the original 1905 section of the building dangerous and resulting in the need to close that section to the public.  The three doors to that section (Main Street, and the two on each side) will be closed until further notice.

This also means the County Clerk’s offices must be closed as well.  This includes marriage and business licenses, tag renewal, and auto dealer services.  We are actively working to find a way to safely reopen operations as quickly as possible and will provide updates as soon as a resolution is determined.

My office, the Register of Deeds, Veterans Services, Human Resources, and Finance will operate normally.
