CROSVILLE MAN SHOOTS AT COUPLE TRYING TO RETRIEVE THEIR ITEMS FROM HIS HOUSE

On February 20, 2024 city units were dispatched to Dunbar Lane in reference to a caller stating a man was pointing a gun at her.  An officer arrived on scene and observed a female with a baseball bat in her hand and also an older male walking towards him with his hand under his jacket. The officer first told the man multiple times to stop walking and show his hands and finally the officer drew his firearm and demanded the male to stop walking and to show his hands. The male complied with the officer’s demands.

A second officer arrived on scene and assisted with taking the male identified as James Lewis Summers (08-16-1946) into custody. Once in custody officers placed Mr. Summers in to the back of a patrol car while they spoke to the victims. One officer made contact with the caller and a man. The caller stated that she and the man were at Mr. Summers’ residence to gather the rest of their personal items due to them being kicked out of the house by Mr. Summers.

The second officer read Mr. Summers his Miranda Rights and he stated that he did not want the pair there and in an attempt to scare them, he pulled out a black Vigilante revolver style pellet gun and shot at them. After receiving written statements from the victims, the officer transported Mr. Summers to the Cumberland County Justice Center. The pellet gun was seized and placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department.
