CROSSVILLE’S MAIN STREET STILL A DISGRACE – TDOT SAYS WE GOTTA WAIT MORE

As nice as Crossville is, Main Street has been a disgrace to the town for many years. I personally have lost two front brake bolts out of the disk brake assembly due to the roughness of Main Street.

I personally have implored the City of Crossville to ‘beg’ TDOT to repave Main Street for the past ten years. The City has given the same reason time and time again. TDOT advised the City they must repair the sidewalks before TDOT would repave Main Street.  As we understand it, there were funds in the budget to upgrade the sidewalks ten years ago but somehow the funding disappeared.  Since then Main Street has been akin to a logging road to drive on.  Now that the City has upgraded the sidewalks TDOT claimed they would start the repaving back in April.  That didn’t happen. Now TDOT says it will be after July 4th before work begins to fix Main Street.  TDOT claims they were behind on other projects causing the delay.  To make it clear. Main Street is a STATE highway 127 – not a City Street.  Repairs must be made by the State of Tennessee.  Crossville was negligent in getting the sidewalks upgraded in a timely manner for many years.  Now that the sidewalks are upgraded TDOT should be diligent on repaving the road.  Even though TDOT claims they are planning to repave Main Street ‘sometime’ after the 4th, it is way, way overdue.  Originally the blame could be placed on the City of Crossville for delaying the sidewalk upgrade – but now it’s in TDOTs court. There is no excuse for a Tennessee City to have such a rugged and disgraceful Main Street.  We’re in a ‘wait and see’ mode currently.
