CROSSVILLE WOMAN CHARGED WITH 2ND DEGREE MURDER IN 2021 OVERDOSE DEATH
CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Crossville woman has been charged with murder in a 2021 drug overdose death, state authorities announced Tuesday.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Crossville Police Department officers responded to a 911 call on Willow Street on Sept. 14, 2021. When the arrived, they found Samuel Mashburn, 35, deceased in the driveway.
An autopsy later revealed Mashburn died of acute combined multiple drug intoxication, TBI said.
An investigation with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Crossville Police Department, and 13th Judicial District Attorney General’s office determined Jerica Hayes, a friend of Mashburn’s, was the person who supplied him with fentanyl.
The Cumberland County Grand Jury handed down an indictment Monday, Aug. 5, charging Hayes with one count of second degree murder and one count of delivery of fentanyl. She was served at the Cumberland County Jail, where she remains as of publication.
Her bond was set at $1,000,000, according to the TBI.
