On 10/11/2024 city units were dispatched to Walgreen’s in reference to a theft that was occurring. The Walgreen’s gave a description of a Black Chevrolet Silverado with TN tag number and a description of a male and female stealing inside of the store. A city officer observed the vehicle attempting to back out of a parking spot and activated his blue lights and stepped out of his patrol unit to make contact with the subjects. As he was walking up to the vehicle, he observed a male driver, middle female passenger, and a male passenger. The male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot towards McDonald’s. The officer initiated a foot pursuit with the male subject. He deployed his taser and activated the taser. One of the taser probes made contact with the suspect’s hoodie, but did not make contact with his body making the taser not effective. The chase pursued into the parking lot of McDonald’s, around the corner into Bentell Square under the awning. The officer last observed the male turn the corner back towards Walgreen’s where he lost view of the subject for several seconds. When the officer made it to the corner, he observed the black truck to be gone and assumed the subject had left in the vehicle with the other subjects. He radioed traffic the vehicle description and the direction of travel of the vehicle.

A second city officer made contact with the vehicle on Hwy 127 South and felony stopped the vehicle.  The female identified herself as Elizabeth Prince. Both were immediately detained after being ordered from the vehicle. On the ground next to the open door of the vehicle where the female was removed was a small baggie containing a crystal substance identified to be Methamphetamine. The Methamphetamine was approximately .37 grams in weight. A search was conducted of the vehicle locating inside of the vehicle the female’s purse and wallet. The wallet contained cards belonging to Elizabeth Prince. Inside of her purse was merchandise believed to belong to Walgreen’s without a receipt. The female denied the stolen property as well as the Methamphetamine.

The officer made contact with the male subject who identified himself. He identified the female as Madisyn Sims. He stated that while they were in the parking lot of Walgreen’s, he observed her call 911 on her cell phone device and call in another vehicle description in the parking lot and that the vehicle was making bomb threats. Dispatch confirmed that around the time of the theft call of Walgreens, a 911 call came in from the same area about a bomb threat made from a female caller. She was identified to be Madisyn Sims and was searched and a TDOC card was found in her front right pocket with a male subject’s information of James Coleman. Ms. Sims had a local Failure to Appear and a warrant out of Putnam County. Dispatch sent a booking sheet of the Coleman subject, confirming that was the subject that fled on foot. Ms. Sims was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center to intake. The male subject that was driving was taken out of handcuffs and let go from the scene. The merchandise was bagged up and recovered back and inventoried at Walgreen’s.
