janice-kay-reedAn investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in a Crossville woman being charged with stealing from someone for whom she served as power of attorney.

At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, on January 4th, Special Agents with the TBI joined investigators with the District Attorney’s office in investigating Janice Kay Reed on a theft complaint. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that Reed had served as caretaker and power of attorney for Kaye Johnson. The investigation showed that from April 2008 through August 2015, Reed was the individual responsible for stealing funds from Johnson, reportedly more than $120,000. Reed has been employed as front office clerk at Stone Memorial High School.

On Monday, the Cumberland County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Reed with one count of Theft over $60,000 (Class B felony and highest theft amount by law). Reed turned herself in to authorities Monday and was booked into the Cumberland County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
