Louisiana State Police are investigating an accident on Interstate 10 west of Ramah Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a Tennessee man.

State Police say the accident happened just before 4 p.m. on I-10 eastbound.

According to police, the driver of a 2016 Peterbuilt, 63-year-old David Sanders of Holden, came to a stop at in the right lane because of traffic.

State Troopers say at the same time, 22-year-old Devon White of Elyria, Ohio was driving a 2016 Freightliner in the right lane behind an unknown 18-wheeler when it suddenly swerved into the left lane.

White attempted to avoid Sanders’ truck by steering into the right shoulder but still managed to sideswipe the trailer of Sanders’ truck.

The driver of a second 2016 Freightliner who was driving behind White, 42-year-old Karl Lindberg of Crossville, Tennessee, attempted to avoid the crash but still hit the trailers of both trucks causing severe damage.

Lindberg received severe injuries in the crash. He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

State Police say that all of the drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and they do not believe that impairment was a factor in the crash.

White and Sanders both submitted to a chemical breath test but showed no detectable signs of impairment.

A routine toxicology test was taken from Lindberg and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
