CROSSVILLE POLICE OFFICER ATTACKED DURING A DOMESTIC CALL

elkgrove (1)Police are putting their lives on the line every time they’re dispatched to a call and one call this week demonstrated that clearly when a Crossville Police Officer was attacked.  Sgt. Brian Eckelson was called to a home on Darrell Avenue for a report of a man threatening a woman.  The woman explained that 21 year old Brier Dillon Wightman had threatened to kill her.  Officer Eckelson was trying to calm Wightman down when the man rushed the officer and shoved him through a porch railing onto the ground.  Then Wightman jumped on the officer and began to beat him.  The officer was finally able to overcome Wightman and cuff him.  Wightman was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and assault of an officer.  The woman told Officer Eckleson that Wightman had mental issues.  Officer Eckleson suffered minor injuries.
