CROSSVILLE OFFICER FILES GRIEVANCE FOR MISSING OUT ON POSSIBLE PROMOTION

cnpca20809A grievance has been filed by a Crossville employee who believes he was passed over for a higher position. Police Sgt. Bart Riden filed a grievance with Police Chief David Beaty on Dec. 23, 2014. In the letter, he states that a Lieutenant’s job was awarded to Sgt. Tony Akins and that he was unaware that the job was opening up or was never given the chance to apply for it. He cites that such job listings have been posted in the past and everyone given the opportunity to apply. Sgt. Riden also states that placing extra duties on an individual does not necessarily warrant a promotion. In his reply, Chief Beaty states that Sgt. Riden had been given the chance in the past for a Lieutenant position, and both Chief Beaty and City Manager David Rutherford recommend Riden seek out special training opportunities in the future. Neither official found a basis for Sgt. Riden’s protest. The City Grievance Committee is scheduled to meet on the complaint Monday, Jan. 26th. (105.7 News)
