CROSSVILLE NEWS FIRST READERS IN SHOCK OVER PARTIAL ‘CELL PHONE HEADLINE’

CNF’s news page inbox blew up tonight (3, 8,21) when a story appeared that we shared from our friends at NewsTalk 94.1 reporting that the Gondola Restaurant in Cookeville was having to close after 53 years of operation. As most know, there is a Gondola in Crossville as well. Turns out the headline of the story from CNF, which read “GONDOLA PIZZA RESTAURANT FORCED TO CLOSE AFTER 53 YEARS OPERATING ON S. JEFFERSON IN COOKEVILLE” did not show up on mobile phones correctly. (CLICK HERE TO READ STORY) We received thousands of messages throughout the evening complaining the headline should have told it was the Cookeville restaurant. It is our policy to always indicate the location where the news event occurred in the headline or featured news banner of the story for clarification. We’ve received too many complaints from readers pointing out that other news outlets too often do not include the origin of the story in their headlines.  The problem last night was related to the particular screen viewers were using.  CNF stories are prepared by the publication department on either a desktop or laptop computer which displays the entire story headline.  However, on mobile devices, the headline doesn’t completely show as you can see below. We apologize for any confusion and thank all CNF readers for your input.
