CROSSVILLE MAN TELLS POLICE HE IS ON HIS WAY TO MEET HIS PROBATION OFFICER THEN THIS HAPPENS

On August 16, 2023  A city officer observed the driver of a sliver Dodge Stratus to be on the phone while the vehicle was in motion traveling West on Elmore Rd. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in Weigel’s parking lot. Upon making contact with the driver who was identified as Mr. Steven R. Scott, D.O.B. 12/13/1987, the officer asked the driver where he was going. He stated that he was going to meet his probation officer

The officer asked Mr. Scott for consent to search the vehicle, to which he replied that the officer would have to ask the passenger for consent due to it being her vehicle. The officer asked the passenger who gave consent to search the vehicle. The officer asked both of the occupants to step out of the vehicle. When the driver exited the vehicle the officer asked him if he had anything that would poke or stick him. He stated that he had a point in one of his pockets but was not sure which one. The officer then asked him for consent to search his person, to which he gave his consent.

While searching Mr. Scotts person, the officer located 2 syringes in his left pant pocket and a white tube containing a cut straw. The officer then searched a pack of Marlboro cigarettes in his outer shirt pocket. Inside the pack the officer located a small clear baggie containing a crystalline substance.

The officer then detained him by placing him in handcuffs and the vehicle was searched by the officer and his partner.

While searching the vehicle in the driver side door pocket one officer located a clear tube that contained 7 seeds that he believed to be marijuana seeds. He continued the search of the vehicle in the driver side floor board and located a clear glass pipe that had black burnt residue. The second officer searched a pack of cigarettes and inside the pack he located a syringe without a plunger and no cap to be covering the needle. Upon that officer opening the door on the passenger side he located  a clear baggie containing a crystalline substance residue. After the search of the vehicle Mr. Scott was placed into custody and transported to the Justice Center. At the Justice Center the clear baggie containing the crystalline substance was weighed. The substance weighed approximately 1.05 grams.  Mr. Scott was then served with warrants for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was served a City citation for T.C.A code 55-8-199  (talking on the cell phone).

At the Crossville Police Department officers field tested the crystalline substance. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. The 1.05 grams of methamphetamine was sent to TBI. The small clear baggie containing crystalline substance residue, the clear tube containing the 7 marijuana seeds, the clear glass pipe with burnt black residue and the white tube containing a cut straw were placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department. The pack of Marlboro were the methamphetamine was located and a small spoon were properly disposed of.
