CROSSVILLE MAN OUT $15,000, BOUGHT SKID STEER OFF FACEBOOK AD-STOLEN FROM GA

CROSSVILLE POLICE REPORT:

On 07/08/2024, City units received a call from React Recovery stating they are at a local residence to recover a stolen skid steer construction equipment that was stolen from Gwinnett County Georgia Home Depot. I arrived on scene and made contact with React Recovery employee. The employee stated they tracked the skid steer to the address by GPS on the skid steer. I ran the vin on the skid steer that came back stolen in NCIC from Gwinnett County GA. I made contact with the home owner at by cellphone which his daughter provided. I spoke with the homeowner. He stated he found the skid steer on Facebook and met with a black male at Pilot parking lot off Genesis Rd.  The victim stated the male brought the trailer and skid steer to him and he was driving a black truck. He stated he still has the phone number to the male he purchased it from. The victim was informed that the skid steer was going to be towed by React Recovery due to it being stolen. He stated he purchased the skid steer and trailer for $15,000.

I spoke with SGT Aaron Newson with Gwinnett County Police Department regarding the recovery of the skid steer. He was informed that the subject who sold Mr. Sherrill the skid steer was also selling more items on Facebook. I then called the victim back and he informed me he screen shot the male who he purchased the skid steer from Facebook page and would send them to Detective Wilson. He sent Detective Wilson a facebook page with a black male subject displaying the name Marcus Stewart.
Marcus Stewart’s facebook was showing him selling an orange skid steer similar to the stolen one we recovered from the Crossville homeowner and a pressure washer. He also sent a screen shot of a phone number which he contacted the male through.

Marcus Stewart’s facebook profile shows him living in Detroit Michigan. On his Facebook marketplace post of the pressure washer it shows his preferred meeting location to be Stone Mountain GA and his other post with the skid steer which is similar or the same that was recovered for being stolen to have a meeting location of Harrison, TN.
