An early Tuesday morning accident in Kentucky has claimed the life of a Crossville man and left his wife injured.

56-year-old Michael V. Smith was pronounced dead shortly after the crash that occurred on Kentucky Highway 461 in Rockcastle county. Authorities say Smith was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 52-year-old Delaine K. Smith of Crossville.    Delaine Smith suffered injuries and was flown to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators say the couple’s vehicle was struck head on by a 2008 Ford Mustang that crossed the center line. A 21-year-old driving the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police and troopers say alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the collision.
