On 09/18/2024 City units were requested at Cumberland Medical Center in regard to a possible physical assault. Upon the officer’s arrival he made contact with the alleged victim of the assault. According to the victim, she and a Mr. Kurt Sanders (DOB 09/29/1981), whom is her boyfriend, got into an argument about her popping his bike tire.  She stated that the night before they had stayed at the Budget Inn and the morning of the 18th they had left, Mr. Sanders taking the bicycle leaving her to walk. When she arrived at Chesnut Street where Mr. Sanders was, she popped his bicycle tire because she was upset at him because he did not let her use the bicycle. The two began to verbally argue and Mr. Sanders then told the victim “I’m going to beat the f*** out of you”. Mr. Sanders then headbutted the victim in the forehead so hard she heard a crack. While talking to the victim, the officer did observe her to have a golf ball sized knot on her forehead.

While the officer was speaking to the victim, another officer was able to make contact with Mr. Sanders on Chesnut Street. The initial officer then went out to Chesnut Street and spoke to Mr. Sanders. Mr. Sanders informed the officer that the two had been verbally arguing over a matter that he could not remember but it never became physical. The officer asked Mr. Sanders if he had been drinking that morning and he said he was. While speaking to Mr. Sanders the officer observed a bruise and several small scratches on his forehead. At this time the officer determined Mr. Sanders to be the primary aggressor and placed him into custody.

The officer then transported Mr. Sanders to the Cumberland County Justice Center where he applied for and was granted a warrant on Mr. Sanders for domestic assault. The officer then served the warrant on Mr. Sanders at intake where he also read him his bond conditions with the victim.
