CROSSVILLE MAN FOUND PASSED OUT IN TRUCK WITH FIREARM AND MORE AT FAST FOOD DRIVE-THRU

On 02/08/2025 at 8:05 a.m. City Units were dispatched to Dunkin Donuts in reference to a male subject passed out in a red truck in the drive–thru. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with a man who was identified as Mr. Steven Wayne Powers (DOB 02-08-78). When the officer first made contact with Mr. Powers, the vehicle was in drive with his foot on the brake and he was passed out, requiring the officer to place the vehicle in park. When the officer opened the door to check on him, Mr. Powers came to and had bloodshot watery eyes. Mr. Powers stated he had used methamphetamine the night prior. Mr. Powers consented to a search of his vehicle and located in the center console of the vehicle was a glass pipe with a crystalline residue and located in the center console storage compartment was a Ruger 380 pistol. Mr. Powers consented to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Test. The officer read Mr. Powers Implied Consent to which he did consent.
The officer confirmed Mr. Powers was unable to successfully perform Field Sobriety and transported Mr. Powers to Cumberland County Justice Center.
The officer then went to the Commissioner’s Office to apply for a Search Warrant for a blood draw. The Search Warrant was granted by the Commissioner and Mr. Powers‘ blood was extracted into 2 vials which were placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department. The firearm was seized and placed into evidence at the Crossville Police Department as well. The glass pipe was destroyed and disposed of. The officer charged Mr. Powers with Driving Under the Influence and Possession of a Handgun while Intoxicated.
