On 9/1/24 a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to Sligo Street about a subject identified as William Whited who was trespassing. Upon his arrival, Mr. Whited was not on the property.

While speaking with the complainant, the Deputy observed a Blue in color Ford truck driving on the roadway in his direction and when the vehicle stopped, the Deputy observed William Whited to be the driver of the vehicle. Mr. Whited was asked to exit the vehicle, and the Deputy observed Mr. Whited to have an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person, slurred speech, red watery bloodshot eyes, and unsteady on his feet while exiting the vehicle. Mr. Whited was asked if anything illegal was in the vehicle, and he stated there was not. Mr. Whited then consented to a search of the vehicle. A blue and white can believed to be an alcoholic beverage was observed on the passenger floorboard. The registration of the vehicle was run through central dispatch with a tag out of Kentucky. Dispatch then was able to advise that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Crossville City Police Department just before the Deputy’s arrival on the scene.

Mr. Whited was placed into double-locking restraints and seated on the rear bumper of the patrol unit. While the Deputy was speaking with him, Mr. Whited asked if he could drink his beer while they talked.

Mr. Whited was then read his Miranda Warning, and he advised that he understood and still wanted to speak with the Deputy. Mr. Whited was asked who the vehicle belonged to and he stated that the vehicle was a work truck. When asked what business the truck belonged to, Mr. Whited stated “An individual”. Mr. Whited was then asked what the individual’s name was and he stated, “Just take me to jail”.

Mr. Whited was then placed in the back of the patrol unit and contact was made with the registered owner, who stated he would retrieve the vehicle from the scene.

Mr. Whited was then asked if he would perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, to which he consented; however, had difficulty regarding the instructions and execution of all of them.

Mr. Whited was then placed back into double locking restraints and placed into the back of the patrol unit and waited for the registered owner to arrive to retrieve the vehicle.

Once the owner arrived on the scene and took possession of his vehicle, Mr. Whited was then transported to Cumberland County intake for booking. A search warrant was applied for 2 vials of whole blood and was granted. Cumberland County Jail Medical Staff was able to retrieve 2 vials of whole blood from Mr. Whited without incident. Vials were placed into evidence to be sent to
the TBI Lab for testing.
