CROSSVILLE MAN ARRESTED ON CIGARETTE RUN WAS BEING SAFE ABOUT GUN CARRY AND DRINKING

On April 14, 2023 at approximately 10:30 p.m. a City officer was dispatched to the area of Short Rd. and E. First St. in reference to Timothy Crass driving a blue Ford Taurus in the area while possibly intoxicated. His wife advised dispatch that he was possibly headed to 140 from E. First St. since he was from Knoxville. The officer located the Ford Taurus parked at the gas pumps at Mr. Zip’s on Peavine Rd. and went into the store to make contact with Mr, Crass. An employee advised the officer that the male from the vehicle had gone into the restroom.

The officer made contact with Mr. Crass and smelled alcohol on his person and noted his eyes were watery red, and he had difficulty maintaining his balance. His speech was also very slurred and while removing items from his pocket, he dropped multiple items, including his wallet, onto the parking lot. Mr. Crass advised the officer that he’d been drinking prior to coming to Mr. Zip’s for cigarettes and when questioned about a handgun magazine in his pocket, he stated that he’d left the gun at home because he did not want to have it when he’d been drinking. He advised me that his plan was to drive back home after getting his cigarettes.

The officer administrated standardized field sobriety tests in well lit parking lot near his vehicle and after extensive testing the officer found Mr. Crass to be a danger to himself and the public due to his intoxicated state and him planning to drive back home. The officer placed Mr. Crass into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
