On 04/21/2023 city police responded to the Quality Inn reference a physical fight. Upon arrival, in the back of the parking lot, an officer observed 3 people on the ground holding a 4th male down, who was later identified as Tanner Chandler. 

The officer first spoke with a female which was one of the 3 holding Tanner down. She advised that she and Tanner had been dating for a few months. That night, she, Tanner and two others were at the races when Tanner became belligerent. Tanner had been drinking and trying to cause fights with her and other people so they all left. When they got back to the hotel parking lot, Tanner began calling her a “w****,” and yelling about how she sleeps with a lot of men.  She told Tanner to stop but he continued calling her names. She eventually had enough and stated she punched Tanner a few times in the face to get him to stop. At some point while she was punching Tanner, one of the males had got involved and was trying to stop the fighting. Tanner then switched gears and began to fight with the male causing a the other male to get involved. Tanner continued to actively fight all 3 subjects until one male was able to tie Tanner’s hands with a belt while she and the other male had him on the ground. This is when officers arrived on scene.

One of the males advised that Tanner was drunk and trying to start fights all night while at the races. They all decided to go back to their hotel and Tanner began to call the female names, such as “w****,” and talking about her sex life. He stated Jewel “swung on” Tanner numerous times. He stated the other male got involved, and then he got involved. They were able to hold him down until officers arrived.

The other male stated that Tanner and the female were fighting so he stepped in to stop the fight. He stated Tanner had been drunk and trying to fight people all night. He said the initial male and himself jumped in and tried to stop the fight until officers arrived. He further stated he was able to get his belt off to tie up Tanners hands until officers arrive. 

Tanner said that he was told she was sleeping with other “dudes”, and got mad about it. He stated he called her names, such as “w****.” Tanner advised that at one point while he was yelling at the female she started punching him in the face. He said that everyone else then jumped him until police arrived. While speaking with Tanner the officer could smell an odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and his speech was very slurred.

Due to everyone’s statements and intoxication levels, it was unclear who the primary aggressor truly was. With Tanners’ intoxication level, he was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Cumberland County Jail for booking. The rest of the parties involved went to bed for the night.
