CROSSVILLE FAMILY EXPERIENCES THE DOMINO EFFECT OF DRINKING AND CUTTING CHICKEN FOR A SALAD

On 10-10-2025, City officers responded to Anthony Street in reference to a possible domestic. Upon turning into the road where the residence was located an officer observed a 4-door sedan reversing out of the residence. The driver observed the officer coming down the road and pulled back into the driveway of the residence. The officer made contact with a male and female.

While speaking with them, the officer could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the female. He also observed her to have red bloodshot eyes, and she was unsteady on her feet. The officer asked her what happened, and she stated that her Fiancé and her son, got into it and her fiancé left prior to the officer’s arrival but she could not remember much of the incident. She identified her fiancé as Mr. Steven Caird. While the officer continued to speak with her, he observed a small amount of dried blood on her shirt toward the collar portion of her tank top. He also observed her to have red marks on both her arms around the bicep and triceps area of her arms. He asked her about the blood on her shirt. She stated that it was from a cut on her finger. She showed a small scratch mark with a dried blood around her ring finger. He asked her about the red marks on her arms. She stated that it was from her son when he was holding her

The officer then spoke with the male; while speaking with him, he observed multiple blood drops on his shirt and two lines of where blood had run down his arms.  He asked him about the blood on him. He stated that he did not know where it was from. The officer then asked him what had happened. The male stated that his mom was in her bedroom, Mr. Caird and he were in the kitchen. While they were in the kitchen, Mr. Caird was cutting chicken for his salad. While he was cutting the chicken, Mr. Caird cut his finger. He became upset and started hitting the counter and sink. Mr. Caird started yelling and told the male to get him some paper towels. The male gave him some paper towels. He stated that Mr. Caird threw the paper towels back at him. When that happened, the female came out of her room and got into a verbal argument with Mr. Caird. The female and Mr. Caird got close to each other. Another male stepped in between them to separate them. After he got them separated, he told them that they were grown adults and if they could not handle their alcohol, they should not be drinking. Mr. Caird became upset with him after he stated that. Mr. Caird went at the male and then pushed him against the wall in the living room. When he did that a mirror on the wall fell down and shattered on the ground. Mr. Caird then got the male into a headlock. The male stated that he did not remember after that due to his adrenaline being so high

The officer went inside the residence. While in the residence, the officer observed small blood drops throughout the residence from the living room and kitchen area. He also observed small blood drops in the sink.

The officer then spoke with the other male that was at the scene who did not have a shirt on. The officer observed him to have red scratch marks to his neck area. The officer asked where he got the marks. He stated that he got them from his mother (the female) while he was trying to hold her back from getting into the middle of the altercation between Mr. Caird and the first male. When he turned around to put a dog in a room, the officer observed him to have multiple deep scratch marks to his back. The scratches had dried blood around the area. He stated that the scratches were also from his mother, the female. The officer asked him what had happened. He stated that he was in his room, when he heard his mother and Mr. Caird get into a verbal altercation. He stepped out of his room and observed that his brother was trying to separate his mother and Mr. Caird. He went to help his brother by holding his mother back. While he was holding her back, she urinated on the floor. He stated that he observed Mr. Caird get his bother into a head lock and, he went to help his brother get Mr. Carid off of him. He stated that he did strike Mr. Caird with a closed fist in his face. After he got him off his brother. Mr. Caird left the residence.

After gathering all information, the officer found Mr. Caird to be the primary aggressor. Prior to leaving the officer asked parties if they would be willing to fill out a voluntary statement. They all refused. He then asked the first male if he would complete the domestic packet. He again refused. The officer then went to the Cumberland County Justice CenterWhile at the Justice Center, he wrote a warrant for Mr. Caird for domestic assault

On 10-10-2025 at approximately 23:21 hours, the officer was patrolling the area of East First Street. He observed the vehicle Mr. Caird was supposed to be driving. The officer gave the Tennessee registration displayed on the vehicle to dispatch. Dispatch advised the tag was suspended. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at East First Street and Dayton Spur Road. Upon making contact with the driver, who was identified as Mr. Steven Caird. The officer asked him to step out of the vehicle. Once he was out of the vehicle, the officer observed him to have a large contusion to his forehead. The officer then asked him, if he knew Miranda Rights. He stated that he did and did not want to answer any questions. The officer then placed him into custody. Once he was in custody, he stated that he did not want anyone to go to jail but him. He said he would then voluntarily state what had happened without being asked any questions. He stated that he was cutting chicken. while cutting chicken, he cut his finger. He stated that he was upset, because he cut his finger. He asked the first male to get him some paper towels. He stated that he only gave him a small amount of paper towels. He told him to get more paper towels. The male brought the whole roll. He pulled more paper towels off the roll and when he had enough, he threw the roll back toward the male. He stated that the female got upset since he threw the roll toward her son. He stated that she got into his face and cussing towards him. She then started to grab him, ripping his shirt and scratched his arm. He stated that he was trying to get his cigarettes and go outside and smoke. While he was trying to get his cigarettes, he slipped on urine and hit his head on a door frame of his bedroom. That was what caused the large contusion on his forehead. He stated that no physical altercation occurred

The officer then transported Mr. Caird to the Cumberland County Justice Center. While there, the officer served him with the warrant for domestic assault and read him his bond conditions. Mr. Caird acknowledged them and signed them.
