CROSSVILLE COUNCIL TO VOTE ON REFERENDUM FOR AMBULANCE SERVICE TONIGHT
The Crossville city Council is scheduled to vote on how to proceed with a proposed city ambulance service tonight.
The Council has already voted to send the proposal to city voters in a future referendum but has since learned the City charter doesn’t allow for a referendum of this type without asking the State of Tennessee General Assembly passing a law first. Tonight’s meeting will determine if the Council wants to send the State a request to allow for a referendum for the proposed ambulance service. The original proposal by Council member Dr. Mark Fox had already been passed when the Council decided to send the issue to the voters due a possible tax increase for affording a citywide ambulance service tied to the city fire department.
Currently the County operates the ambulance service with a two million dollar deficit each year. The City also has enough revenue to run an ambulance service without a tax increase but the finance director has indicated it would require a tax increase. The City Council meeting is tonight at 6pm at City Hall
