ROWDY CROWD AT THE COURTHOUSE – COMMISSION WON’T OPPOSE WIND FARM, (VIDEO)

Crossville News First Video news package:

It was standing room only at the Cumberland County Courthouse last night as dozens of wind farm opponents filled the room hoping to persuade the Commission to pass a resolution effectively giving the County authority to begin a process of attempting to stop the wind farm project. It’s complicated, but the resolution would institute a ‘zoning’ type ordinance in the county.  Several wind farm opponents were given a chance to address the commission as well as some who were in favor.  The Commission failed to pass the resolution in a 13-3 vote against. Next up was a resolution which simply said the Commission was opposed to the wind farm project, joining other political figures such as Representative Cameron Sexton, State Senator Paul Bailey and even the Crossville City Council who all have publicly called the wind farm a detriment to the community.  The County resolution contained no authority to do anything – just go on record opposing the project.  That resolution failed 10-6.  And that’s when the crowd got loud.  Insults erupted from the red shirt anti-wind turbine folks as they began filing out of the courtroom.  At one point, the Sheriff had to walk into the gallery and calm down both proponents and opponents who were slinging slurs back and forth.

The Commission was really in a ‘no’ mode last night voting down the idea of joining the City in building an indoor recreational complex.  Commissioner’s said they just were not informed well on the project and could not vote for the project to be put on the August ballot.
