COUNTY COMMISSION TO CONSIDER WIND FARM RESOLUTIONS TONIGHT

An important meeting tonight when the Cumberland County Commission will be considering two resolutions regarding the proposed Wind Farm in Crab Orchard.  One would authorize the County to regulate the use of property which might be detrimental to health, morals, comfort, safety, convenience or welfare of residents. The second would have the County Commission join the Fairfield Glade Community Club, City of Crossville along with State and U.S Representatives opinions that the Wind Farm would be detrimental to the general welfare and not in the best interest of Cumberland County.   Both resolutions are proposed by interim 9th District Commissioner Sandra Dutcher. The Wind Farm would consist of 23- 650 feet tall  wind turbines on 50 acres of an 1800 acre tract at a cost of $130 million to Apex Energy.  It would create about 70 jobs during its’ initial construction and about 7 permanent jobs upon completion.  The electricity produced would be routed to another state.  An estimated three-hundred-thousand dollars plus per year would be added to the County General fund from taxes.  A standing-room only crowd is expected at tonight’s meeting which begins at 6pm.
