COUNCILMAN SAYS CITY NEEDS TO CLEAN UP THE ‘SLUMS’ – NOW!

bitmapFor several months now Council-member Pete Souza has maintained some areas of the city of Crossville simply are “slums”. Souza says the city has made no progress in this issue and codes are not being enforced as they should be. Last year, the council partnered with Cumberland County to assist in county codes regulation, but according to City Manager David Rutherford, that is taking codes officers away from addressing issues in Crossville. Souza said that he wanted to see priorities established in city codes, and that he would make such a motion at the next public meeting, along with a motion that mandates the city enforce city permits and the county enforce county permits. He told Rutherford that he wanted to see a June 1 deadline in the matter.
