COMFORT SUITES CLERK FOUND PASSED OUT WHEN GUESTS TRY TO CHECK IN

On August 12, 2023 at 9:00 p.m. City Units were dispatched to Comfort Suites in reference to guests coming to check into the hotel, unable to wake up the front desk worker identified as Benjamin Glenn Damron DOB 4/15/77. Upon their arrival police spoke with the guests that stated they attempted to wake him up but it took nearly 3 minutes to get him to respond. They stated that he had fallen out of his chair and appeared intoxicated.  An officer spoke with the clerk and observed that he exhibited slow movements, extremely slurred speech and had red watery eyes. The officer asked him if he had been drinking and from what the officer could understand he stated he had too much. He also informed the officer that his alcohol was in his car.

The officer then asked him to leave from behind the desk and the clerk was unsteady on his feet and was using the wall to assist his movements. As the officer placed him under arrest he observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. The officer had to hold onto him as he was nearly unable to walk without falling. The officer then asked him for consent to recover the alcohol from his vehicle and he stated he “didn’t give a sh** what he did”. The alcohol was retrieved, emptied and disposed of and Benjamin was transported to the Cumberland County Jail. While on the way to the jail Benjamin continuously cursed at the officer stating all he was trying to do was his job. He was charged with Public Intoxication.
