CNF VIEWERS TELL HOW THEY SURVIVED ‘THE BIG FREEZE’

Crossville News First viewers have been submitting their stories of the winter ice storm.  Some are funny, some sad and some inspiring.  Each of us have our own story of the events in our lives as we lost the world around us as we knew it – no electricity, no heat and some stranded with no way to get food for our families.  If you have an interesting story relating to your survival of the biggest weather disaster on the Plateau in decades, submit it to us using the “Message” button on the Crossville News First Facebook page.

FROM RACHAEL LYNN OWENS:

I have a story of the light through the storm… I went into premature labor the night the storm hit.. I could go on and on about all the difficulties and obstacles that has happened since the second I started labor until now… My little premature miracle baby boy was born one month early, by time I could get out of Fairfield and make it safely to CMC I was already towards the end of my labor… We had a midwife come to my moms house just in case, that’s how close it was. It was completely opposite of my birthing plan… But things always work out for the best. I was supposed to deliver in Knoxville, The highway was shut down, we barely made it to the Crossville medical center… We were both at extreme high risk but ended up with a amazing doctor and needless to say everything ended up being wonderful.. Our first night home, A tree landed on my room, I lost count at 15 that had fallen all around my house and up against my windows, we lost power at 4 am. in the morning my time 730 am. Chris was determined to get us to safety, he decided to build a zip line coming from my front porch down my extreme steep driveway to the light pole … After safely getting us down the driveway into the car, every road in Fairfield Glade we turned onto was covered in snapped power lines and blocked by trees… Lol it was crazy all the challenges… We finally made it safe to my mothers on Peavine Road.. After settling in is when our little Owens mission began. We had neighbors to rescue, friends close by freezing to pick up … We had calls early the next morning by senior citizens, clients of my parents who were running out of oxygen, we found portable units and helped asap… It felt great to help others… Also To see a house full of kids normally so use to tv and video games being so motivated to help…And having a blast with a House full of family and neighbors , playing board games, sharing stories, and enjoying our brand new little miracle, Luke Christopher Noe We are blessed… It has been horrible here, but definitely could’ve been a lot worse. The sense of community is overwhelming..strangers helping each other, risking their own safety to ensure the safety of another… Little did we know our house was harboring heroes.. Who honestly jumped up in the darkness at any call for help and rescue.. Thank you, Becca Owens, Lee Hudson, Chris Noe, Mark Brennan, and of course our rescue shelter, my parents, Delores and Terry Owens.. This has been life changing.. Thank you God for protecting us all !
