CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT NOON TODAY ON OUSTING CITY MANAGER

In the continuing saga of City Council woes, yet another is about to unfold today. Few weeks back, two Council Members, Danny Wyatt and Pam Harris attempted to oust City Manger David Rutherford.  That didn’t work out well…failing in a 3-1 vote against the resolution.  At that time, Council Member Jesse Kerley voted against dismissing the City Manager.  Now, Kerley has called for a special called meeting today at noon for the very same reason – ousting Manager Rutherford, for what Kerley calls ‘gross negligence’.  Wyatt joined Kerley in calling the meeting Monday (it takes two).

Last time, Mayor pro-tem Harris came into the meeting intending on voting for the removal of Rutherford but changed her mind when the vote took place.  Kerley said he thought the Council hadn’t given Rutherford a chance to work well with the Council and also voted ‘no’. When it was all said and done and voted on, Wyatt was the only vote to oust the City Manager.  Wyatt says he hasn’t changed his mind this go-around – so he’ll no doubt vote for the dismissal.  The unknown now is Mayor pro-tem Harris.  How will she vote?  If she votes yes with Wyatt and Kerley – Rutherford is out.  Course Rutherford has given some indication if he gets kicked out, he’ll sue the City. Media reports on Souza statements indicate he’ll vote to keep the City Manager.  Mayor Mayberry says he’s impressed with Rutherfords abilities and voted against the Manager’s removal at the last meeting to oust Rutherford and probably will vote no again. But that’s only two votes to keep Rutherford IF Harris votes to oust Rutherford.   End result: 3-2 for getting rid of the City Manager.

Nonetheless, it should be standing room only today at noon at City Hall to see how it all unfolds.
