53e12d219983d.preview-620To say that the relationship between Crossville City Attorney Kenneth Chadwell and at least two City Councilmen has been contentious would be an understatement.  Councilmen Souza and Kerley seemingly have been wanting Chadwell gone as City attorney for some time as demonstrated by their continual disputes with Mr. Chadwell since they took office.  Chadwell, who has been the City Attorney since 2001, apparently had enough of ‘politics’ and submitted his resignation to the City effective February 27th. City Councilman Danny Wyatt told CNF “Kenneth has done a great job over the years especially considiering our City Charter sometimes contradicts State Code and Kenneth has done a wonderful job making sure the City does the right thing where legal matters are concerned.”  Wyatt went on to say “I don’t think it’s in the best interest of the City for Kenneth to leave the office of City Attorney”.   Meanwhile, Souza and Kerly have been proposing looking for another attorney recently by suggesting the City take applications for the position.      Five law firms have applied for the position of City Attorney.  Former Mayor J.H. Graham said “Kenneth Chadwell has demonstrated integrity in his job at City Attorney and has served the City with exceptional character and ability over the years.”  The resignation of Chadwell makes a total of 19 City employees who have exited their positions in the past 30 days including, but not limited to Police Chief David Beaty, Assistant Police Chief Darrell Sherrill, Police Captain Chuck Anderson,  Fire Captain’s Rick Myers and Don Tabor, Human Resource Director Sandy Gruber, Palace Theater Manager Terry Ashburn, Parks and Recreation Director Steve Hill and City Judge Tom Bean for a total of almost 200 years of city opertations experience.
