CHATTANOOGA FLOODING CAUSES TREE TO FALL ON CAR KILLING TWO ADULTS AND ONE CHILD
EAST RIDGE, Tenn. — Saturated ground caused a large tree to fall on a car in East Ridge early Wednesday morning, killing a child and 2 adults who were inside.
Hamilton County Emergency officials and first responders are now fanning out across flood-affected areas in the county to assess the damage and to see if anyone else needs immediate help.
They’re also trying to locate a man seen walking through floodwaters on East Brainerd Road Tuesday night who hasn’t been seen since.
Almost 7 inches of rain fell in a short time period Tuesday evening, causing enough flooding to close down Interstate 24, and to shut down dozens of roads across Hamilton County.
A Flood Watch is in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, for Cumberland, Pickett, and Fentress counties in Tennessee. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible during this time.
Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Poor drainage locations and urban areas may also experience flooding. While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flash flooding is possible, especially from heavy thunderstorms.
Areas that received heavy rainfall earlier in the day will be at the greatest risk for flooding as additional showers and storms develop. Residents are encouraged to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
