CHARTER SPECTRUM, OTHER PROVIDERS CLOSE DOWN CROSSVILLE OFFICE

If you’re a Charter Spectrum Cable subscriber and pay your bill at the local office in Crossville, don’t waste a trip; they’ve closed down.  Charter customers were informed in their monthly bill that the local office closed September 30th and customers will need to travel to the Cookeville office if they need personal service.  This has many Charter customers upset particularly if you need to go in for a new modem or cable box – or to just pay your bill.  Sources say Charter’s reasoning for closing their Crossville office was due to “minimal traffic”.  Another Cumberland County cable service, Spirit Broadband has already closed their local office. Until the past couple of years, cable companies were required to have a franchise agreement with the City and County governments which specified the cable company must maintain a local office.  That was over ruled by a Federal statute that the State has adopted which takes away any connection between the cable companies and local governments except for the required franchise fees to the county and city.
