21-year-old River Matich of Arlington Tennessee was driving along I-40 east bound mile marker 331 in Crab Orchard Sunday night around 11:30 along with his passenger, 20-year-old Alexandria Tuttle of Knoxville, when out of the darkness appeared a huge black bear.  Matich couldn’t avoid hitting the animal.  The pick-up crashed into the bear, ran off the interstate, hit a ditch and overturned.  Neither occupants were seriously injured and refused treatment by EMS. The bear was killed instantly according the THP report.
