CANNIBALIZED MURDER VICTIM FROM PIKEVILLE TENNESSEE
The victim killed in a bizarre murder and cannibalism case has been identified.
Police called it one of the most gruesome murder scenes they’ve ever seen. Gregory Scott Hale, age 37, has been accused of killing a woman he met from Bledsoe County.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Lisa Marie Hyder. She’d been staying with some friends near Manchester.
The incident happened at 750 Pete Sain Road, which is east of Manchester. Investigators said Hale lived with his parents, but most of the evidence was collected in the garage or behind the home.
Authorities said Hale confessed to murdering Hyder on Friday. He apparently picked her up in town and brought her back to his house — the same day he met her.
According to investigators, Hale told them he dismembered her body and even ate part of it.
In his little neighborhood, no one can stop talking about the murder.
“I’m just at a loss for words. I don’t know what to think that this kid I’ve known for 28 years could do something this gruesome,” said one neighbor who didn’t wish to be identified.
She said Hale had dinner over the weekend with one of her friends.
“She told me he sat at their kitchen table Saturday night and ate supper with them like nothing was wrong,” she said.
Something was wrong.
Investigators said after Hale dismembered the body, he tried to find someone to help with the disposal. That person called authorities.
“You know I knew he wasn’t right, but I never thought he’d do something like that, and they got to talking about he was in to Satanism and stuff like that and he’d posted on Facebook,” another neighbor said.
Hale has posted several photographs of himself on Facebook wearing black and carrying big knives.
Hyder’s body has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy. Hale has been held on a $1.5 million bond.
He was arraigned on Monday and was appointed an attorney.
