BUYING A DRONE FOR CHRISTMAS? – GONNA HAVE TO REGISTER IT
If you’re thinking of buying a drone for Christmas this year…be sure to let the receiver know they must register the drone with the FAA. There’s all kinds of drone’s out there….from big ones to small ones.
But regardless of what kind of drone is on your list this year, pretty soon most of them will need to be registered.
Why? The FAA says they want to educate users about airspace and prevent these drones from causing any trouble. Right now you’re only allowed to fly drones up to 400 feet and within your line of vision.
But if you’re not ready for the commitment of being registered with the FAA, there’s plenty of drones small enough to fly under the radar.
If it’s under 250 grams (1/2 pound) it won’t need to be registered.
The registration fee for users is 5 dollars but that is being waived for the first thirty days.
Users who purchased a drone before December 21 will have until February 19 to register. Drones purchased after December 21 must be registered before their first flight.
