BURGLARY SUSPECT KILLED BY POLICE IN HARRIMAN AFTER POINTING GUN AT THEM
Officers in Harriman shot and killed a burglary suspect Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Miranda Michelle Guy, 28, was shot after officers responded to a burglary call.
Officials say Guy was spotted driving a suspect vehicle and fled from officers. They say she drove to a home on Fairchild Street in Harriman, ran inside, grabbed a gun, and pointed it at officers.
That is when officers say they shot Guy.
According to Roane Police Chief Randy Heidle, officers inside the home included a Roane County deputy and Harriman police officer.
She was taken to Roane Medical Center in Harriman, where doctors pronounced her dead.
“The first thing I do in a case like this, when an officer’s involved, I actually call the District Attorney General’s office, and they went ahead and got TBI involved,” Chief Heidle said.
TBI is investigating the shooting.
Guy’s father, Paul Edwards, said his daughter suffered from a neurological disease that damages muscles and bones. Her sister-in-law said she walked with a limp.
Guy’s family is waiting to comment until they receive Guy’s autopsy results.
TBI has not yet released the names of the deputy and officer involved in the shooting; both were not hurt.
