NBC News and other media, including Entertainment Weekly, are confirming that actor and comedian Robin Williams has been found dead.

The 63-year-old Oscar winner was found dead at his Northern California home.

According to the Marin County coroner’s office, the cause of death is believed to be “suicide due to asphyxia.”

Entertainment Weekly said his publicist had released a statement confirming the death: “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

A 911 call about Williams was made about noon.
