BOE MEETS THURSDAY TO OUTLINE NEW DOS SEARCH, WITHOUT COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The Cumberland County Board of Education is set to meet on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. One of the items on their agenda will be to vote on a search process for the Director of Schools with the assistance of the Tennessee School Boards Association. This comes after the BOE voted to not renew DOS Billy Stepp’s contract despite a public outcry to keep Stepp. There has never been such an uproar by the county over the dismissal of a Director of Schools. Teachers, parents, students and faculty vehemently opposed the release of Stepp. An ongoing investigation has uncovered several underlying reasons that five BOE members chose to dismiss Stepp, some involving nepotism, but none concerning Stepps performance as DOS.
