Cumberland County Residents are getting calls on their home and cell phones from a 202-241-0880 number. When you answer it is a recorded message from the IRS asking you to call back. When you call back they ask for your Criminal Attorney’s address so they may mail out legal papers. They will also say they have attempted to reach you by certified mail and you have ignored them. All these scare tattics are a way to get more personal inforamation from you. Do not give them any information. This is a scam. IRS uses 800 numbers and will never leave a phone message. If they need to get in touch with you they will use the general mail delivery. If you refuse to give the scam company information they threaten that the Sheriff’s Dept will show up at your door this evening. In general you should never give any personal information to anyone over the phone.
