BEWARE: CRIMINALS CAN GET YOUR PERSONAL INFO BY JUST ‘LOOKING’ AT YOUR CAR

There’s a website called Thatsthem.com that allows a person to type in a VIN, and then it gives out personal information about the car’s owner. Every car has a unique VIN to identify its make and model, but it can also reveal the owner’s address, phone number, education, estimated net worth, social media accounts, even the religion you practice.

VIN-locationThe website isn’t 100 percent accurate and sometimes reveals the name and address of a previous owner, or sometimes doesn’t reveal any information about anyone.

While it may not be a surprise to Bean, it’s just one more thing to think about the next time you lock your doors and walk away from your car.

Thatsthem.com has an ‘Opt Out’ section on its website that allows you to ensure your personal information isn’t released if someone tries to run your VIN.
