ATHEIST ROANE COUNTY COMMISSIONER SAYS ‘NO’ TO RELIGIOUS MOTTO
One Roane County Commissioner says he is not in favor of a proposal to put the phrase “In God We Trust” on the County’s courthouse. According to WATE, Roane County Commissioner Steve Keller says despite the fact the fact that he has been an atheist since his teens and doesn’t believe in God, his decision to vote against going forward with the proposal does not mean he has an issue with religion. Kelly says he is more concerned with opening up the county to the potential for lawsuits, noting that those who are opposed to the proposal might be afraid to speak up. The measure is set to go for a vote at the July 14th County Commission meeting.
