There is possibly an active shooter on the loose in Eastern Cumberland County.  A shooting occured at the rest area on I-40 east bound around 4:30 today.  All reports CNF has is that the shooter may be in the area on foot.  Sheriff Cox has told news outlets he’s not certain of all the details surrounding the shooting. Reports are coming in that helicopters are flying presently in the area looking for the suspect.  The suspect has been reported to a male, 6 foot, bald and wearing a black shirt.  We are checking on this continually….

We are currently working a shooting in Cumberland County at the 324 Rest Area. A possible shooter may still be at large. A description was given to troopers of an approximately 6ft white male, bald and in a dark colored shirt. Vehicle description unknown. Interstate 40 east is being shut down to land Lifeforce to fly out one subject that has been shot. We are unsure of any other patients at this time. TDOT has been notified to assist with the interstate. THP’s CID and aviation are on scene. This is an active investigation.
