Is Good Friday A Federal Holiday? What’s Open, what’s closed
Many are wondering: is Good Friday a federal holiday? And similar questions like “Is the post office open on Good Friday?”, “Are banks open on Good Friday?”, and “Are stores open on Good Friday?”
To be clear, Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, but it is not a federal holiday in the United States.
Tennessee is one of only twelve states that observe Good Friday as a State Holiday. Most businesses are open but could be closed depending on their policies. In Crossville most banks are open as well as City Hall and the County Mayors Office and Finance Office only at the Courthouse. You may find that State agencies are closed however.
Schools are closed on Good Friday and the closure of places in general on this day is often the cause of controversy since it is a religious observance. Also closed is the Stock Market.
