TRUCK STOLEN THAT WAS GOING TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR ‘SAVING RYLAN’
A pickup truck that was going to be raffled off as a fund raiser to help a local 4 year old boy suffering from a rare genetic disease was stolen this morning. The vehicle is a 1985 GMC SIERRA CLASSIC
2 DOOR, 4X4. and was taken from Performance Auto Detail on Main Street in Crossville.
Rylan Hyder is a 4 year old fun loving, free spirited little boy who was diagnosed in November with a rare genetic terminal disease called Sanfilippo Syndrome type A. This is an inherited metabolic disease caused by an absence or malfunctioning of certain enzymes needed to break down a molecule called heparan sulfate. This only affects individuals who inherit the defective gene from both parents. Only one in every 70,000 births is affected by this syndrome. Eventually all motor skills will be lost and he will progressively get worse with each passing day robbing him of his life without a cure. These changes are a 100% certainty without a treatment. As of right now there is not a cure, however, researchers are working on a breakthrough gene therapy treatment that can possibly stop this devastating disease.
Funds were being raised through ticket sales and the truck was to be raffled off in April in a drawing. Anyone with any information is asked to to please call the Crossville Police Department.
