MONTEREY WOMAN CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE, LEAVING BABY IN HOT CAR
On or about the 15th day of April, 2026, in Putnam County, Tennessee, LINDA CHARLENE STEVENS, age 69 did unlawfully and negligently kill Gabrielle Alonzo, 7 months of age. The killing of Gabrielle Alonzo being the result of criminally negligent conduct of LINDA CHARLENE STEVENS in violation of Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-13-212, to wit:
Linda Charlene Stevens placed the child and his car seat in the backseat of her vehicle; she secured the car seat with the belt buckle. Linda Charlene Stevens admitted that her plan was to drop the child off at his daycare, but she did not.
Once secured in the vehicle, Linda Charlene Stevens drove to the public library in Monterey, TN where she worked. She entered the building and began her work day. She left the child secured in her locked car from 8:00 am until approximately 4:00 pm. when she received a telephone call from a family member asking about the child’s whereabouts. The child was found in her vehicle deceased.
Once secured in the vehicle, Linda Charlene Stevens drove to the public library in Monterey, TN where she worked. She entered the building and began her work day. She left the child secured in her locked car from 8:00 am until approximately 4:00 pm. when she received a telephone call from a family member asking about the child’s whereabouts.
