WARTBURG FATHER ACCUSED OF HITTING, KILLING 7 YEAR OLD SON WITH CAR
A 7-year-old Morgan County boy was killed Thursday and his father is now facing charges following the incident.
According to an arrest warrant, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a call at 106 Clifton Court in the Bitter Creek Community of a 7-year-old boy suspected of being hit by a vehicle.
The report states the boy’s father, Christopher E. Hawkins, age 40, stated he thought the victim had fallen and hit his head. However, an examination by law enforcement on the scene felt the injuries were caused by something more than a fall.
During their investigation, officers observed Hawkins had slurred speech, droopy eyelids and trouble recalling information. He was placed into custody after a field sobriety test.
Hawkins refused a blood test, but after authorities obtained a warrant, his blood was drawn at Roane Medical Center.
Hawkins has been booked into Morgan County Jail on charges of DUI, vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, and implied consent. His bond was set at $1,052,000.
