CROSSVILLE COUNCIL VOTES TO RESCIND CITY-OPERATED EMS VOTE

The Crossville City Council has voted 3-2 to rescind their September vote passing a city operated EMS system.  Councilmen Gernt and Turner said they wanted more time to digest the costs involved and if, indeed, the City property tax would need to be raised to cover the EMS costs.  City Finance director Nathan Clouse spent most of a half hour explaining several options the city could take with each raising property taxes from 52 per cent to a hundred and seven percent to sustain the operation cost of a city fire-ems program.  The numbers do not agree with a previous presentation by the city fire department on the estimated EMS costs.  The Council also passed a motion to put the city operated EMS proposal on a voter referendum in next years elections.  A motion to rescind a vote means it can be brought for a vote again in 90 days.
