4/24/25
On 4-9-25, at approximately 1:40 p.m., an officer was requested to the Fairfield Glade Police Department for a scam report. The officer spoke to the victim who stated she had gotten ready to watch television and tried to use her Hulu account but was signed out and not able to get back in. She stated she had called a Hulu customer service number and been placed on hold, then tried another number (866)409-3463 where she did not have to wait in a queue. She stated that they claimed she had been hacked and showed her transactions on her account to guise her into allowing them access. She stated she had spoken to a “Peter Smith” financial advisor with the number (917)636-5902 and a “Jimmy Elis” (267)934-4749, both had foreign accents. She stated that they had gained remote access to her phone and instructed her to unlock multiple applications with her PIN while doing so. She stated that she had entered her Social Security number into a program at some point during the scam and believed they likely had all of her information. She also stated that approximately $1400 had been spent or moved out of her checking account. She stated there were also suspicious transactions on her PayPal savings account, where approximately $78,000 was moved. Some of the money was then moved into her First National Bank of Tennessee checking account, approximately $76,000. Then approximately $3800 was placed/left in her savings account. There were multiple transactions on the remaining balance of the savings account that resulted in approximately $1700 spent or moved from the account. She stated there were crypto purchases and other unknown charges. She estimated $2100 was lost across the two accounts. She further stated she had been in contact with her bank and PayPal savings account banking service and had gotten her banking secured and believed she would be reimbursed for the damages.
The officer informed the victim to complete an IC3.gov report and instructed her to get her phone professionally cleaned to prevent any backdoor or remote access. He also instructed her to change all passwords to secure her accounts. The victim’s information was somewhat discombobulated, and she stated she was in a daze from all of the happenings and couldn’t access all of her information for a completely accurate report.
